It is not always easy to remember your wedding anniversary - for a variety of reasons. Here are a few tips on recording it and making sure you do something special.

Life can be a bustle and forgetting your anniversary can be as difficult as forgetting to say goodbye to your spouse while rushing out for work in the morning. As marriage evolves from nerves, dreamland to baby bumps and financial responsibilities, your wedding anniversary can just drop through your line of thought as easy as water runs through a sieve. Here are a few ways to keep taps on the calendar and make sure you remember your anniversary.

Write it Down in Your Planner

Whether you are a high flying executive or a busy suburbian stay-at-home parent, a daily planner is an essential part of your life. Make sure you mark your anniversary in its calendar, whether the pages flip by week or by days. To emphasize its importance, decorate the page with stickers and flowers and hearts by using felt-tip pens.

Make Use of Technology

If email, mobile phones, PDAs, and even iPods (if it is possible) are your thing, make use of all the surrounding technology you have to record your anniversary date. Make sure the gadget you use makes a distinctive sound when your date springs up on you. If you are using your PDA or mobile phone, record your voice to resonate "it is your wedding anniversary today - remember to wish your husband / wife," or something to that effect.

With your email service provider, programme it to prompt you on your special date with the same message above in the subject line. Make sure it is written in all caps.

Give Yourself Ample Reminders before the Big Day

Reminding yourself on the day itself may not be enough. In addition to the reminders on the day, do everything above the same way but schedule it for a month in advance, the first day of the calendar month, a week in advance and three days in advance. This way, you will be receiving prompts all the way up to your anniversary.

Tell the People Around You

Lastly, remind your children, parents, siblings, cousins, neighbours, colleagues, members in your social circles of your wedding anniversary after recording it in your diary / mobile phone / email. This curbs the chances of the day going past without being remembered.

Tell them about your anniversary plans. Whether it involved jetting off to Hawaii or cooking a spaghetti bolognaise with meatballs, let everyone know well in advance - your romantic interest in your marriage may just be picked up by one or two nosy parkers.
